1. What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, work more efficiently, or provide information to site owners.
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies we use on vapourauto.com, why we use them, and how you can control or remove them. It works alongside our Privacy Policy.
2. How We Use Cookies
We use cookies to:
- Make the site function correctly (for example, remembering form state if you navigate away and come back).
- Understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it.
- Measure the performance of our advertising on Google.
We do not use cookies to identify you personally without your consent.
3. Categories of Cookies We Use
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for the site to function. They enable core functions such as page navigation, form submission, and security. The site cannot function properly without them, and they cannot be disabled.
Performance and analytics cookies
These cookies collect information about how visitors use the site, such as which pages are visited most often, time on page, and any error messages. The information is aggregated and anonymous and is used only to improve site performance. We use providers such as Google Analytics for this purpose.
Functionality cookies
These cookies allow the site to remember choices you make (such as your preferred form input or whether you've dismissed a notification) and provide a more personalised experience. They do not track your browsing on other sites.
Marketing and advertising cookies
We advertise on Google, and we use cookies to measure the effectiveness of those campaigns and to show relevant ads to visitors who have shown interest in our services. These cookies may be set by us or by advertising partners.
4. Third-Party Cookies
Some cookies on our site are set by services we use, not by us directly. These include:
- Google Maps sets cookies through embedded maps on our Contact and About pages. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts may set cookies when loading typography files. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Analytics sets cookies to measure site usage. See Google's Privacy Policy and the Google Analytics opt-out.
- YouTube sets cookies when an embedded video is played. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) may set cookies if you interact with embedded content or share links.
We do not control these third-party cookies. To manage them, refer to each service's privacy controls or use your browser settings.
5. Advertising Cookies and Site Storage
We advertise on Google. To know which ads bring in enquiries and bookings, the site uses the Google cookies and the small items of browser storage listed here. None of them holds your name, email address or phone number.
Google cookies
- _gcl_au (Google Ads): lets Google Ads connect a visit to the ad that led to it. Kept for 90 days.
- _gcl_aw (Google Ads): holds the click id of the Google ad you clicked to reach us. Kept for 90 days.
- _gcl_gb (Google Ads): holds another form of Google ad click id, used for some clicks such as those from iPhones. Kept for 90 days.
- Other cookies starting with _gcl_ that Google Ads may set hold the same kind of ad click details, also for 90 days.
- _ga and _ga_ followed by an id (Google Analytics): count visits and tell one visitor from another without naming anyone. Kept for 2 years.
Storage in your browser, set by our own site
- va_attr_v1 (local storage): the details of the Google ad you clicked to reach us, if any. That is Google's click id (gclid, gbraid or wbraid), the campaign tags in the ad's link (utm values) and the first page you landed on. Kept for 90 days, then removed.
- va_svc_v1 (local storage): the service you last looked at or picked (detailing, ceramic coating, paint protection film or window tint), so a booking or enquiry shows which service it came from. Kept for 30 days.
- va_bk_done (local storage): the reference numbers of your last 20 booking requests, so one booking is never counted twice. Kept until you clear your browser storage.
- va_bk_site (session storage): notes that a booking was started on this site in this browser tab. Removed when you close the tab.
- va-theme and va-variant (local storage): the colour scheme of a few pages. Kept until you clear your browser storage.
We save va_attr_v1 and va_svc_v1 only where we also set the Google Ads cookies. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland get none of the Google cookies above and neither of those two items.
What goes with a booking or an enquiry
When you request a booking or send one of our enquiry forms, the ad click details above (if there are any) and the service you chose go with your request to OrbisX, the booking and customer system we use to run the studio.
To measure which ads lead to real work, we also send Google Ads the ad click id and the reference number of a booked job, the email address and phone number on that booking in hashed form (scrambled one way, so they can be matched but not read), and, for calls that came from our Google ads, the phone numbers on booked jobs together with the times of those calls, so Google can match a call to a booking. We use this only to measure our advertising.
6. Cookie Duration
Cookies fall into two duration categories:
- Session cookies are temporary. They are deleted when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookies remain on your device for a set period (anywhere from a few days to two years) or until you delete them manually. They are reused on return visits.
Each cookie's specific duration is set by the service that placed it.
7. Managing and Disabling Cookies
You can manage or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Here are guides for the most common browsers:
- Chrome: Manage cookies in Chrome
- Safari: Manage cookies in Safari
- Firefox: Manage cookies in Firefox
- Edge: Manage cookies in Edge
Disabling certain cookies may affect how the site works for you. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be disabled because the site needs them to function.
For broader control, you can use industry opt-out tools such as the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada's AdChoices tool to opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies.
8. Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal that asks websites not to track your browsing. There is currently no industry standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. Our site does not change behaviour based on DNT signals at this time, but we honour your cookie preferences set through your browser controls and through the opt-out links above.
9. Your Consent
By continuing to use vapourauto.com, you consent to our use of cookies as described in this policy. You can withdraw consent at any time by adjusting your browser settings or by contacting us.
For more on how we collect and protect your information generally, see our Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the technologies we use, or legal requirements. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows the most recent revision.
